Prof Iddi Mkilaha the Director General of Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission, among other things is formulating ways and methods by which the Commission can operate and meet its core functions, planning and overseeing of the operations of the commission directorates and units in striving to meet its objectives.

One of his key challenges is to take TAEC as a business entity, at the same time serving as a research unit while performing the core functions of a regulator in radiation protection issues. "Limitations on resources limit our capabilities to meet the emerging needs and requirements." Despite the limitations, Prof Mkilaha envisions TAEC as a strong entity in few years to come.

He sees this through strong capacity building in research consultancy and services provision. "I foresee a Commission that will have well developed staff who will be able to meet the expectations of the public and nation in particular on Atomic Energy and Nuclear Technology applications for the sustainable development of Tanzania."

His areas of specialization are mechanical, energy and environmental engineering but he also has research interests in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its applications in teaching and learning.
